Gordon's Pond Letterbox (Easy)
Cape Henlopen State Park-Gordon's Pond
Sussex County, DE
This area of the park is best accessed from Rehoboth Beach. Beginning at the north end of the boardwalk, proceed north to the stop sign. Turn right, and follow the ocean drive to its end at the park entrance. Note: Daily until 5 PM during the summer, parking will cost DE cars $2.50 and others $5. Labor Day to Memorial Day there no charge. You may walk or bike in free, but in the summer there's no other place to leave a car except in town.
Enter the parking lot and follow the bike path to the 1st crosswalk. Cross and continue on the gravel bike path past 3 wooden benches, and markers 6 through 9. At marker 10/11, take the sandy path through the woods about 232 paces to the entrance of an area of fallen trees. Look right to find the 1st rootball. Go a few pacesNW and look into the rootball.
After you've replaced the letterbox, we hope you'll check out the observation area at the end of the bike path (3/4 mi. from parking lot). GP is a wildlife sanctuary.
